rainy day activity: play mat

It's been nothing but rain for us all week. Like pouring raining. It's lush and green outside but after a week of it I was desperate for an activity.  We got ourselves some fabric markers and I had a few yards of upholstery fabric I got at Home Fabrics for $2 a yard forever ago. We made ourselves a play mat. Brett's mom has one. It's adorable, with little roads and houses and trees sewn on to it with different fabric. The kids drive their cars on it. I've wanted one and thought it would be fun to let the kiddo in on the fun. So this is our version, just simplified.

I drew some roads and let her draw whatever she wanted. We drew a zoo and an icecream shop and a park.  It even has a carousel and a rainbow with gold on it. It kept her busy for a few hours yesterday and she's been asking to work on it today. Good thing too since there is no sign of sunshine today.

  3. I love the idea! It's just too bad that Josie doesn't like to draw right now :( She always wants me to draw everything for her. Maybe when she gets older...
