rainy day activities

We've had lots of rainy days. I love the rain but the kids have still had a bit of cabin fever. They've become familiar with "activities". Usually they are pretty good about entertaining themselves but when bordom sets in I'm always asked, "Will you find an activity for us?" So we've had some, a slope for cars, paint in ziplock bags, and baking soda/vinegar fun with food coloring.  Something to get us all through until the sun returns.

confetti party!

We had a confetti party on Saturday. A really, really, crazy fun party. We played lots of confetti games and decorated cupcakes. I probably didn't have to plan anything else but let them play with that confetti. That's all they wanted to do was throw confetti at each other.  It was so cute to watch them.

And yes, we had confetti trailed all over the house. I'm sure we'll be finding it for weeks. Good thing for vacuums!

rainy day activity: play mat

It's been nothing but rain for us all week. Like pouring raining. It's lush and green outside but after a week of it I was desperate for an activity.  We got ourselves some fabric markers and I had a few yards of upholstery fabric I got at Home Fabrics for $2 a yard forever ago. We made ourselves a play mat. Brett's mom has one. It's adorable, with little roads and houses and trees sewn on to it with different fabric. The kids drive their cars on it. I've wanted one and thought it would be fun to let the kiddo in on the fun. So this is our version, just simplified.

I drew some roads and let her draw whatever she wanted. We drew a zoo and an icecream shop and a park.  It even has a carousel and a rainbow with gold on it. It kept her busy for a few hours yesterday and she's been asking to work on it today. Good thing too since there is no sign of sunshine today.
